Dedicated to the memory of Alan Glassfield

This site is a tribute to Alan. He is much loved and will always be remembered.

Touching tribute to Alan Glassfield, his life as a personal trainer, friendship with Prodigy front man Keith Flint and time at his brothers wedding, by the Essex Live News: https://www.essexlive.news/news/essex-news/chelmsford-mans-heartbreaking-cancer-battle-3784048

All funds raised on Alan's tribute fund will go towards a Cystic Fibrosis Trust strategic research project starting in January 2021, investigating ways to better understand and prevent gastrointestinal cancer in cystic fibrosis. As people with CF live for longer, evidence is emerging of how they are affected by diseases of older age, such as cancer. Data so far show that people with CF are at a five times higher risk of developing GI cancer, that this cancer is developing at a younger age when compared to the general population and that people with CF post-transplant are significantly more at risk than those with CF who have not received a transplant.
Laboratory based studies have shown that this increased risk may be due to a little-understood role of CFTR, the protein that goes wrong in cystic fibrosis. Professor Stephen Renshaw at the University of Sheffield and an international team of researchers have identified a series of events that may lead to cells becoming cancerous, triggered by the faulty CFTR. In this three year Strategic Research Centre programme of work they will test to see if their ideas are correct, and also test whether drugs already used for a different medical purpose may reduce these cancer-causing effects in people with cystic fibrosis.
